　 「棋」( Chess )是著名的作词家 Tim Rice 所创作出的概念专辑，他以往的作品通常是根据真人实事来撰写歌词内容，如他和大名鼎鼎的安德鲁洛伊韦伯合作的「艾薇塔」、「万世巨星」，这张专辑却是他依据美国和苏联两国之间行之多年的西洋棋大赛所杜撰出来的故事，负责音乐编写的则是瑞典国宝 ABBA 阿巴合唱团的两位男团员 Benny Andersson 及 Bjorn Ulvaeus。

　这张专辑中在当年出现多首排行热门单曲，如进入美国十大的" One night in Bangkok 曼谷的一夜 "，以及在英国获得冠军的" I know him so well "，演唱的两位女歌手伊莲佩姬和芭芭拉狄克森都是百老汇红伶，唱功游刃有余，却也不禁令人想到：这首歌若是由当时已解散的阿巴合唱团另外两位杰出的女团员演唱的话，会是何等迷人光景？
