“蒙娜丽莎综合症”---MONA LISA hypothesis是取英语Most Obesities kNown Are Low In Sympathetic Activity（意即“大多数的肥胖是由交感神经不够活跃而造成的”）的首字母而拼成的名字。换言之，瘦不下去是因为消耗人体热量的交感神经活动低下。

Obesity is considered a world epidemic, but no efficient therapy is available so far. Different mechanisms were proposed to explain obesity condition. One of those is the MONA LISA hypothesis that states that Most Obesities kNown Are Low In Sympathetic Activity. 

肥胖症是一种全球性的“流行病”，但目前来看还没有有效的治愈方法。人们对肥胖的成因提出了多种原理机制，其中之一就是“蒙娜丽莎综合症”。
