1．有些名词既可作可数，也可作不可数：

glass玻璃—a glass玻璃杯/glasses眼镜

copper铜—a copper铜币

iron铁—an iron熨斗

wood木头—a wood树林

gold金—a gold金牌

democracy民主—a democracy民主国家

agony痛苦—an agony令人痛苦的事

kindness善意—a kindness善行

necessity必要性—a necessity必需品

beauty美—a beauty美人

pleasure高兴—a pleasure使人愉快的事

youth青春—a youth年轻人

relation关系—a relation亲戚

power力量—a power大国

interest兴趣—interests利益

business商业—a business商店，商行

experience经验—an experience经历

2．下列特殊情况中，谓语动词使用单数：

(1)当主语由and连接，表示同一人，同一物，同一事或者同一概念时，此时and连接的两个词前只有一个冠词，谓语动词用单数。

(2)由and连接的两个或更多的主语之前有each，every, many a(n)，no时，谓语动词用单数。

(3)each, every, each and every, either, neither, one, another, little,a little和much作主语或修饰主语时，谓语动词永远用单数。

(4)everyone, everybody, everything, anyone, anybody, anything, someone, somebody, something, no one, nobody, nothing作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式。

(5)当主语中心词为度量、距离、时间、价格等复数名词时。

(6)当主语由more than one...或many a...构成时，尽管从意义上看是复数，但谓语动词仍采用单数形式。

3．下列情况，谓语动词根据主语的意义选择单数或复数：

(1)集体名词作主语时，表示整体时视为单数，表示成负时视为复数。常见的有：army, audience，class，club, committee, crowd, family, government, group等。

(2)有些名词作主语时，谓语动词需要根据具体的意思确定用单数还是复数，比如politics表示“政治学”用单数，表示“人际关系”用复数；statistics作“统计学”讲时用单数，表示“统计数据”时用复数等。

(3)none，some，any, more，most．all等代词作主语时，动词的单复数由其指代的词的单复数决定。

(4)在定语从句中，若引导词在从句中充当主语，谓语的数要跟先行词一致。

4．下列情况，谓语动词根据就近原则选择单复数：

(1)当or, either...or, neither...nor, not only...but also连接两个以上主语时，谓语动词与最邻近的主语保持一致。

(2)如果句子是由here，there引导，而主语又不止一个时，谓语通常也和最邻近的主语一致。

分析：根据arouse“唤起”，可知其后搭配的interests“利益，福利”不对。要改成不可数名词interest，表示“兴趣”。

分析：concentration既可以作可数名词，也可以作不可数名词，作可数名词意为“人或物的集中、聚集或集合”；作不可数名词，意为“注意力集中于”。在本题中，用法为后者。故需把concentrations改成concentration。
