拼缀法（blending）是把两个词同时进行裁剪，或截头或去尾，或只裁剪两个词中的一个，保留另外一个。然后把两部分拼合在一起，构成一个新词。Blending is a process of word formaiton by combining parts of two words or a word plus a part of another word. 具体做法包括分为：词首+词尾，词首+词首，词首+单词，单词+词尾。拼缀法构词一般首先出现于报刊文章、科技文章利。用这种构词法创造的新词言简意丰，生动别致，符合现代人快节奏的甚或。必须承认，拼缀法（blending）是当代英语新词汇发展丰富的重要的构词方式之一。

1. 词首+词尾 (head +tail)

motel (motor + hotel) 汽车旅馆

boatel (boat + hotel) 汽艇游客旅馆

autocide (automobile + suicide) 撞车自杀

camcorder (camera + recorder) 摄像机

brunch (breakfast + lunch) 早中饭

guestimate (guess + estimate) 瞎猜

slurb (slum +suburb) 郊区贫民窟

stagflation (stagnation + inflation) 经济滞胀

beautility (beauty + utility) 美丽实用

advertistics (advertising + statistics) 广告统计学




2. 词首 + 词首 (head + head)

sitcom (situation + comedy) 情景喜剧

telex (teleprinter + exchange) 电传

moped (motor + pedal) 机器两用脚踏车

sci-fi (science + fiction) 科幻小说

comsat (communications + satellite)通讯卫星

psywar (psychological + warfare) 心理战

Amerind (American + Indian) 美洲印第安人



3. 词首 +单词 (head + word)

Motown (motor + town) 汽车城

medicare (medical + care) 医疗保健制度

autocamp (automobile + camp) 汽车野营

telequiz (telephone + quiz) 电话测试

helipad (helicopter + pad) 直升飞机升降场

mediaid (medical + aid) 美国的医疗补助方案

telediagnosis (television + diagnosis) 远距诊断

Eurasia (Europe + Asia) 欧亚



4. 单词 + 词尾 (word + tail)

workfare (work + welfare) 劳动福利

talkathon (talk + marathon) 冗长的谈话

lunarnaut (lunar + astronaut) 登月宇航员

slimnastics (slim + gymnastics) 瘦身操

airhotel (air + hotel) 靠近飞机场的宾馆

bookmobile (book + automobile) 流动书店

tourmobile (tour + automobile) 游览车



从上面的例词可以看出拼缀词大多是名词,拼缀动词与形容词较少.这类词多用在科技、报刊等文体中,随着英语语言简单化的趋势,生活领域里的拼缀词必将大量涌现,掌握这类词的特点,对分析单词结构,记忆单词、扩大词汇量都将起到积极的作用。
