This bottle is quite full.
这一瓶装得很满.

   这一句不能译作:"这一瓶装得比较满", 如要表达此意, 应该说: This bottle is rather full.
   quite这个词的用法需要小心. 当它修饰一个能表示"完全程度" (completeness) 意味的形容词时,
作"十分","很"解, 相当于completely 和entirely. 例如:
   The bottle is quite empty.
   瓶里一点东西也没有.
   (涵义是：There is nothing in it at all.)
   He is a quite dead.
   他死了, 没有丝毫生的气息.
   (涵义是: There is no sign of life.)
   因此, The bottle is quite full. 的涵义是: The bottle is full up to the top.
   但是, 当quite修饰其他的形容词或副词时, 其意较弱, 一般译为"颇"或"较".
例如, quite good的程度不及good好, 但比fairly good好一些. 当quite表示"十分",
"很"的意味, 一般不承受重音, 如要重读, 也要和后面的形容词一起重读表示"颇",
"较"的涵义时, quite一般要重读. 见下例:
   It is `quite full.
   它盛得满满的.
   It is `quite good.
   它还不错.

   请注意下列对话中两个quite dard的不同涵义和不同读法. 第一个quite是表示considerably的意味,
第二个quite表示entirely或completely的意思.
   Tom: It’s dangerous to go out in daylight. We must wait till nightfall.
   John: It’s quite dark now. Let’s go.
   Tom: Not dark enough. We must wait till it’s quite dark.

   John在说话时, 把重音放在quite字上, 表示天色已相当黑了, 但Tom强调"一定要等到天完全黑下来才能走",
 故把重音放在quite和dark两个字上.

   下面例句里的quite都是表示entirely或completely的意味, 故译"完全".
   She has not been quite the same since her mother died!
   自从她的母亲死后, 她完全变了样!
   Payment yes, but payment in gold, that's quite another matter!
   付钱是可以的, 但用黄金支付, 那就完全是另一码事了.
   You are quite mistaken!
   你完全搞错啦!
   You're quite right that some of Hong Kong's biggest tycoons are shareholders in the firm.
   你说的完全正确, 香港的某些最大的实业巨头是这家公司的股东.
