Growing trees is not so simple
怎么才能让小树健康成长呢?
THERE is a lot more to planting a tree than just putting it into the ground.
Even before planting the tree you need to decide which kind of tree to plant.
And, that depends on the kind of weather and soil (土壤) you have.
A young tree can die if the weather is too hot or too cold. So, spring or early autumn are the best times of year to plant trees.
The hole for the tree must not be too deep or too small. If it is too deep air cannot get to the roots. If it is too small the roots don’t have enough space to grow.
Newly planted trees should be watered straight away.
They should also be watered at least once a week and more often in summer.
But they must not be watered too much. If the tree is watered too much air cannot get to the roots and the tree might die.
Putting small pieces of wood around the bottom (底部) of a newly planted tree can help it to grow.
Doing this helps air get to the tree’s roots and also makes sure they don’t get too dry.
To help the tree stand up straight you can put a stake (桩) into the ground next to the tree and tie the tree to it.
The tree mustn’t have the stake for too long or it will be weak when it grows up.
To protect (保护) the tree’s bark (树皮) from the sun and wind you can wrap (包) special paper around the tree.
You have to change the paper every spring to make sure the bark doesn’t have any disease.
