    Bob, who is Chinese, is speaking to his American classmate, Jill.

    J: Hi, Bob. What's up?

    B: I don't see anything up in the sky. Do you?

    J: No, Bob. "What's up?" is slang for "What's happening?"

    B: Well, why didn't you just ask me that in the first place?

    J: Get with it, Bob. Everyone uses slang in America. It makes speech more colorful.

    B: I'm having enough trouble learning English.

    J: But you should give it your best shot, Bob.

    B: Why?

    J: How else can you get to meet American chicks?

    B: What chick? I don't like eggs.

    J: "Chicks" mean "girls," you fool.

    B: Oh, I give up!

    get with it —— follow the trend 跟着潮流走

    两种说法:I am American. or I am an American.   Chinese 一样

    What's up, man? 年轻人常用   answer: Nothing special. How about you?      dude = guy = man  哥们,年轻人用

    How is it going?  还不错吧?

    be short of 缺乏   be short for 缩写

    in the beginning = in the first place  开始

    You speak in informal English.

    formal occasion : funeral, wedding

    speech 讲话(不可数)   演讲(可数): Peter made a speech to the students who fell asleep.

    deliver a speech  发表演讲

    speechless    I was speechless when she said I love you. 无话可说

    best shot = best try

    how else 要不然

    you fool 傻子
