报道中的“virtual money”就是网民们甚为熟悉的“虚拟钱币”，“virtual”在此表示“虚拟的”，属于网络词汇，伴随着电脑的发明应运而生。此外，我们日常所说的“虚拟社区”可表示为“virtual community”，而“虚拟物品”则可用“virtual items”来形容。

值得一提的是，“virtual”还有一层含义与“虚拟的”正好相反，它可用来形容“实质上的，实际的”，如：A virtual state of war exists between the two country.（这两个国家实际上处于战争状态。）
