1. to work like a dog
My brother worked like a dog to become successful.
2. to help a lame dog over a stile
He would always help a lame dog over the stile, which was his boast.
3. a dog's breakfast / dinner
That bedroom looks like a dog's breakfast. Clean it up man!
4. to put on the dog
Peter is sure putting on the dog since his rich aunt died and left him 10 million dollars.
5. to go to the dogs
Berry has really gone to the dogs since he lost his job. All he does now is hang around the house and drink beer.
I haven't seen you in a dog's age(好久不见);生活不如意,也可以She's living a dog's life(她过着连狗都不如的生活);在英语中也可以见到“狗肉”:Your car is a piece of dog meat(你的车好烂)。
