Cheng Fei crowned triple champions at Ljubljana
China's Cheng Fei triumphed in three out of five events to bestow herself the triple world gymnastics champion on Sunday's gymnastics world championship Ljubljana stage.
Cheng, after taking gold in jump at the previous day, wrapped up titles out of the balanced beam and floor exercise again.Another two Chinese youngsters Li Ya and Han Bing were second in balanced beam and third in the women's floor respectively.
Cheng and Li finished first and second in women's balance beam, helping China strive for this individual medal in a sport it has traditionally dominated. Cheng has an excellent start at this 0.1-metre beam, with ideal back or forward flips and turn to end her performance earning first with a score of as high as 15.675.
The 19-year-old widened her lead to ensure the victory with a score of 15.675 to the second her teammate Li Ya's 14.350. A French gymnast was third with 14. 200.
Cheng as well leads her dominance on the floor, earning a total of 13.475 to take the third individual medal and crowned to be the triple world champion at this stage; Han Bing, ranked merely the fourth in the preliminary, jumped forward into the third at the finals with 13.475.
"I am happy for Cheng Fei and Li Ya's performance since it has proved that our winter training work well; but we can't relax as long as the arch rivals didn't show up," Lu Shenzhen, China's gymnastics women team's head coach, said of the events.
